CLIMBING KILIMANJARO ROUTE

MARANGU ROUTE

The Marangu route is one of the most moulded route with a well-advanced and gradual trail all the way to the Kibo base camp and finally to the Mount Kilimanjaro summit. It is deemed to be the comfier and Easiest Route for its gentleness. Your climb on this day is constant and moderate with only the trek to the summit which is a bit more challenging. Being referred to as the ‘Coca Cola’ route is a little deceiving and this has misled many climbers to believe that it is a completely easy route to the summit. The fact that it is affordable in a minimum of 5 - 6 days to accomplish, it does not mean that it is easier than any other route despite the fact that it is the only route where you sleep in huts as opposed to tents via other routes. For those with no prior trekking in altitude experience under their belts, we highly recommend that they take an optional acclimatization day at Horombo Huts. The Marangu route commence at the Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA) headquarters in the of Marangu village and heads towards Kibo straight westwards. The walking trails leads through the lush rainforest, heath and alpine desert to moorland and finally across the arctic zone to the peak and same route for descent.

MACHAME ROUTE

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro via the Machame route is one of the most scenic and the most reputable route as much more as none of other routes in comparison. Nicknamed the "Whiskey Route", the Machame route most especially in comparison with the Marangu route which is being referred to as a “Coca-Cola route.” The Marangu route is arguably one of the most challenging routes in terms of its high elevations and altitudes; but it is better suited for adventurous trekkers and those familiarized with mountain trek experience.

The Machame route is proven to be scenically the most beautiful and appealing route comparing to other routes. Taking you through the stunning sights across the Shira plateau, from Barranco Wall to Lava tower and all the way up to the summit, the Machame route has much more to offer than the amazing memories of the Kilimanjaro adventure experience. Some parts of this route are steeper than the Marangu and Rongai routes and strategically more demanding but is strenuously easier comprehensive. However, the Machame route is highly reputable for its rising and falling elevations with trek high and sleep low geomorphology that offers a better acclimatization hike as we move from one camp to another.

RONGAI ROUTE

Starting from the north-eastern side of the mountain near the Kenyan border, the Rongai Route rises above the Amboseli plains and approach the summit of Kilimanjaro west of the Mawenzi peak. It is an unfrequented route and is also the easiest camping approach to Uhuru Peak. The descent normally uses the Marangu Route. Briefly, there are two optional variations that one may choose to attempt the Kilimanjaro trek via this route. You can choose to attempt the summit via Mawenzi Tarn Hut or via School Hut which is also referred to as an Outward Bound Hut. However, the hike via the Mawenzi Tarn Hut is longer and more popular but the most affordable in comparisons. Prior to the extra acclimatization day for the 7-day trek as recommended, the Rongai route offers a great chance for the summit success results.

UMBWE ROUTE

We will start our trek for the Kilimanjaro’s via Umbwe Route from the southern plains of the mountain. It is one of the shortest, steep, the most spectacular route and a direct way to reach to Uhuru Peak. The route follows the forested timberline to the moorland zone, then cut across below the southern ice fields and down the southern circuit to reach the Machame Route which joins the same scree to the summit. Many stages of this route are fairly steep suitable for an experienced mountain hiker able to tackle the steep trails with high altitude gains in a short distance. Your trekking poles will be useful on the steep and wet slopes in the rainforest. Hiking across the unique mountain landscapes as you will pass through the five climatic zones. There is a lot more to see from the rainforest zone to the summit's glaciers.
